Building Social Media Skills Inside a Nonprofit

Yancey Red developed a social media strategy designed to give the nonprofit’s internal team a stronger framework for managing its own digital presence. Employee training sessions focused on practical social media best practices, content development, audience engagement, platform optimization, and using social media to support fundraising and community-building goals.

Following the training, Yancey Red remained available as a consultant, giving employees an experienced resource for questions, strategy decisions, platform issues, and evolving social media needs. The work built on a broader strategy spanning Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Google Business Profile.

About The Client

The client is an Oregon nonprofit providing disability support services for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Its work spans residential, employment, community inclusion, and other support services, creating a wide range of stories, programs, fundraising priorities, and community information to communicate online.

The Process

The engagement centered on building an actionable social media strategy and then giving employees the knowledge to carry it forward. Training sessions covered platform best practices, content planning, audience engagement, profile optimization, inclusive social media content, and ways to coordinate messaging across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Google Business Profile. The original strategy also incorporated regular performance measurement and reporting.

Fundraising was an important part of the training and strategy, including how social media could be used to communicate the organization’s mission, tell stronger stories, engage supporters, and support fundraising initiatives without making every message an ask. After training, Yancey Red remained available for consulting so employees had ongoing strategic support as questions, campaigns, and platform challenges arose.

Social Media Results

The engagement gave the nonprofit an internal team with a clearer social media strategy, practical platform knowledge, and a stronger understanding of how to use social media for community engagement, storytelling, and fundraising. Employees left the training sessions with best practices they could apply directly to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Google Business Profile.

Rather than creating long-term dependence on outside management, the work built internal capacity while giving the organization continued access to Yancey Red for consulting, troubleshooting, and strategic guidance when needed.
